Michelle Micsko, PhD

Dr. Micsko is a Licensed Psychologist in both Kansas and Missouri. She dedicates her career at Insight Counseling, LLC to the widespread issues of compulsive and disordered eating. Since 1986, Dr. Micsko has provided individual, family, and group psychotherapy for adolescents and adults specializing in the treatment of eating issues and body image concerns. She facilitates seminars locally and nationally for teens and adults on topics related to disordered eating and also provides training and ongoing supervision to professionals who treat Eating Disorders. She has been instrumental in bringing multiple nationally known speakers to Kansas City to help further public and professional education regarding eating issues. Dr. Micsko has been an active board member of the nonprofit Body Balance Coalition Foundation since 1997, serving as President for a decade. The National Speaking of Women's Health Foundation honored her in 2003 with an award of distinction for her contributions to Eating Disorder treatment in Kansas City. Dr. Micsko is also married and the mother of two children.
Kathi Bjerg, RD, LD

Kathi is a registered dietitian licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. She serves the Kansas City community at InSight Counseling, LLC, helping those with Eating Disorders and weight concerns. She has over 25 years of experience providing nutrition therapy to individuals with compulsive and disordered eating. During this time, she has given numerous presentations, designed to promote awareness and enhance prevention of Eating Disorders, to schools and community groups. As a part of the ongoing training and supervision she provides to nutrition therapists, she has developed and produced educational materials which are used by those who treat individuals struggling with disordered eating. Since 1999, she has served on the board of the Body Balance Coalition, a nonprofit foundation designed to promote education and awareness of Eating Disorders. Through her work on the Revisioning Women Project (UMKC), the Eating Disorder Self-Help Group Steering Committee, the Body Balance Coalition Foundation, and the National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Kathi has contributed significantly to the battle against Eating Disorders in her community. In addition, Kathi is married and is the mother of three grown children.
Beth Harrell, MS, RD, LD

Beth is a registered dietitian who has been working in the field of Eating Disorders since the early 90’s working in both inpatient and private practice settings. Beth is skilled in working with adolescents and adults who are seeking a supportive place to work through food and weight-related issues. She educates about the physical symptoms related to emotional eating, restricting, bingeing, purging, and “over-dieting”. She works with your Primary Care Physician, Psychologist/Counselor and other healthcare professional to deliver team-centered treatment. She is a master’s level registered dietitian licensed in both Kansas and Missouri and is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Kansas City Dietetic Association and Dietetic Practice Group for Behavioral Health. She was recognized by the Kansas City Dietetic Association as "Outstanding Dietitian of the Year" in 2001. Beth has been active in National Eating Disorder Awareness Week promotions to schools and has worked with girl’s sports teams to promote healthy eating to win. In addition to her professional work, Beth is active in her community along with her husband and two teenagers.
Jaynie Prior, LCPC, Inc.

Jaynie is a therapist with over fifteen years experience working with families, couples, and individuals. She specializes in treating individuals struggling with the full spectrum of Eating Disorders as well as those with Depression, Anxiety, and Behavior Disorders. She also enjoys working with clients who are having relationship struggles. Jaynie works with teenagers as well as adults and facilitates a therapy group for adults with Eating Disorders. Her strong expertise in family therapy has proved invaluable with those families who have an individual struggling with an eating issue. She has a strengths-based frame of reference, and her theoretical orientation is grounded in systems theory. With Masters Degrees in Family Therapy as well as Psychology, Jaynie is a Licensed Counselor who brings a high level of professionalism to her work with her clients. Her focus on working with families has developed from her own household where she is raising two teenagers.
Kathryn Pieper, PhD

Dr. Pieper is a Licensed Psychologist in Kansas and Missouri. She specializes in the treatment of adults and teens with Eating Disorders, Depression and Anxiety. Dr Pieper joins the Insight Counseling network of professionals with over twenty years experience treating clients with disordered eating. Dr Pieper also enjoys working with general psychotherapy clients on adjustment to difficult circumstances, and problems with interpersonal relationships. She provides parenting support and direction, along with skills-based treatment for younger clients with behavioral and emotional concerns. With a training background in Clinical Psychology and subspecialty in health psychology, Dr Pieper collaborates with clients to address psychological aspects of their emotional and physical health. In addition to providing psychological services at Insight Counseling, Dr Pieper is on the staff at Children’s Mercy Hospital where she cares for patients and provides training and supervision of doctoral Interns, Medical Residents and Fellows She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Medicine and maintains academic affiliations with the University of Kansas, Departments of Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology, and Applied Behavioral Sciences. In addition to her professional roles, Dr Pieper is married and has three children, ranging in age from early teen to college-age.
Ashley McCune, MA, MA, LPC

Ashley McCune is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Kansas. Ashley holds master’s degrees in both general Psychology from Boston University and in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Ashley is currently in the final stages of completing her doctoral degree in Clinical Health Psychology. Ashley specializes in the assessment and treatment of Eating Disorders. She has worked with adults and adolescents with Eating Disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings since 2004. Ashley is dedicated to a multidisciplinary team approach and believes in tailoring treatment to meet each person’s individual needs. She utilizes an integrative counseling style, but draws heavily from cognitive-behavioral and acceptance based therapies. Ashley also enjoys working with individuals struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and those with general adjustment issues. Ashley provides individual, family, and group counseling. She also offers appointments specifically designed for the assessment of eating behavior.
Kirsten Oelklaus, LSCSW

Kirsten is a Licensed Social worker in Kansas who has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders for over fifteen years. Kirsten has treated adolescents and adults in two in-patient specialty Eating Disorders programs prior to moving into outpatient practice. After receiving her graduate degree from the University of Kansas, she was trained at the Menninger Clinic, treating patients from a psychodynamic approach. Kirsten enjoys collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide specialty treatment to patients and families with disordered eating and related mood issues. While she treats patients of all ages, she has a particular interest in helping adolescents and young adults using a strengths based model. A native of the Kansas City area, Kirsten lives with her husband and two very active young boys.
Brooke Wesley, LSCSW

Brooke received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Missouri Kansas City. She has worked as a therapist in a variety of settings since graduating in 2000. Brooke has worked with adolescents and adults who struggle with eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm behaviors and personality disorders. Working in a High School Setting for several years motivated Brooke to advocate for students, while teaming with the education system to create a safe environment for teens to learn and grow. Brooke is passionate about working with the whole person; introducing strengths based methods and positive/healthy coping skills to all participants. In addition to individual, and group counseling, Brooke is the co-founder of Thalia House, teaches at Park University and speaks publicly on a variety of mental health issues.
Staci Hendrickson MS,RD,LD

Staci Hendrickson has been providing nutrition therapy to individuals with Eating Disorders since 2000. Staci has worked in the outpatient setting in Lawrence, Kansas and the inpatient setting at Menninger’s in Topeka. She is certified in the Int uitive Eating process and believes this is the ultimate goal for most clients. Staci enjoys educating clients about the role of food in optimal functioning of the body and the mind. She is knowledgeable regarding supplementation, food allergies and intolerances, and food aversions (especially in the pediatric population). As a certified personal trainer, Staci enjoys working with clients who need guidance with exercise issues. Weight management, diabetes, and nutrition for individuals with special needs are other areas of interest for Staci. In addition to her work, Staci is a wife and mother of two busy boys.
Sally Kochtanek RD, LD

Sally Kochtanek has been providing nutrition therapy and counseling to individuals struggling with Eating Disorders for the past 4 years. Sally has gained most of her experience working with individuals at an inpatient and partial hospitalization treatment program. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Kansas State University. She received a Master’s degree in Applied Nutrition from Northeastern University. Sally works with adolescents and adults to restore nutritional status, provide education about physical symptoms related to all types of eating disorders, and develop individualized nutrition care plans. Her passion and focus of treatment is helping clients achieve nutritional stability and develop a healthy relationship with food. She collaborates with your Primary Care Physician, Psychiatrist, Therapist/Counselor and other healthcare professionals to provide multi-disciplinary treatment. Sally is licensed in both Kansas and Missouri and is a member of the American Dietetic Association and Kansas City Dietetic Association. Sally has given presentations about eating disorders to a number of high schools in the Kansas City area, local community centers, and The University of Kansas Edwards Campus. In addition to her work, Sally keeps busy with family, friends, and her dog Ollie.
Laura Eickman, PsyD

Laura Eickman, PsyD is a Licensed Psychologist in Kansas. She focused on Eating Disorders throughout her education and training at the University of Nebraska and Baylor University, and has worked with adolescents and adults with eating and body image issues for 13 years. Dr. Eickman provides individual, family, and group psychotherapy, and utilizes a relational, strengths-based approach to therapy. She has given numerous presentations throughout the Midwest, providing education and promoting awareness about Eating Disorders. Dr. Eickman is committed to increasing prevention efforts in this field and recently developed the REbeL Peer Education Program. She currently facilitates REbeL at Blue Valley Northwest High School. She is married and is the mother of two young boys.
Sarah Miller, MA, LCPC

Sarah Miller practices as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Kansas who specializes in treating adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders. She also enjoys helping individuals and families struggling with anxiety, various mood disorders, general adjustment, relational and interpersonal concerns. Sarah received her BS in Nutritional Sciences in 2001 and her MA in Clinical Counseling in 2006. Sarah has been working with adolescents in various settings for over 12 years and has experience in wellness coaching. Sarah values working with a treatment team, utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, and respects each individual for his/her own uniqueness. She works through an Attachment Theory lens and believes in a holistic approach to counseling through exploration of psychological, emotional, spiritual, and relational aspects of one's life. Additionally, Sarah loves being married and caring for their daughter.
Katy Harvey, MS, RD, LD

Katy is a master's level registered dietitian, licensed in both Kansas and Missouri. She is an Eating Disorders specialist who helps clients normalize their relationship with food and their body. She specializes in the treatment of Anorexia, Bulimia and compulsive eating, as well as general women's health issues including PCOS and menopause. She has vast experience with breast cancer survivors who suffer from metabolic changes following treatment. She collaborates with your physician, therapist and other members of your healthcare team to provide multidisciplinary treatment. She is also available for group presentations and workshops. Katy is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, the Kansas City Dietetic Association and the Missouri Dietetic Association. Additionally, Katy is receiving ongoing training and supervision from Kathi Bjerg, RD, LD, who has over 25 years of experience treating compulsive and disordered eating. She and her husband enjoy cooking, watching movies, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Ashley Heintzelman, PhD

Dr. Heintzelman received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She specializes in the treatment of adults and adolescents struggling with Eating Disorders and body image issues. Other clinical areas of specialty include mood disorders, relational concerns and identity development. Dr. Heintzelman provides individual, family and group psychotherapy and especially enjoys collaborating within a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide closely coordinated treatment for individuals battling eating and body image concerns. She believes in a strong emphasis on educating and involving parents, spouses, siblings, and coaches in the treatment experience. She approaches therapy from an integrative approach and utilizes person-centered, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral theories in her work with clients. Dr. Heintzelman is engaged in post-doctoral supervision under the direction of Michelle Micsko, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist and Eating Disorders Specialist. A native of Kansas City, Dr. Heintzelman is married and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Blaire Hughes, MA, TLPC

Blaire received her Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2011 following a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Central Missouri in 2008. During her education, Blaire was involved in several research studies addressing the sociocultural influences on eating disorder development. Her clinical experience consists of working in a variety of different settings including college counseling centers, a community agency, and a domestic violence shelter. Blaire enjoys working with individuals struggling with Eating Disorders and body image issues, as well as mood disorders, anxiety, and interpersonal concerns. She works through a person-centered lens and utilizes mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal techniques. Blaire is currently engaged in ongoing supervision under the direction of Sarah Miller, LCPC and training with Michelle Micsko, Ph.D. while she pursues licensure as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Blaire is a native of Kansas City and enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, family, and friends.
